Referring back to Sec 1 History Learning Journey this year... We went to the Asian Civilisations Museum in line with the current History topic of that time, Civilisations. The main exhibit we were supposed to look out for was the Nalanda Trail, about Buddhism and its history. We answered questions on a worksheet about the life of Buddha, the Silk Road, and how Buddhism spread across the world.

Ah. The Silk Road. It played quite a big part in the spreading of Buddhism, too. It was a major trade route for traders from all over the world to go to for business. Here's some info on the Silk Road, taken from Wikipedia:

"The Silk Road, or Silk Routes, are an extensive interconnected network of trade routes across the Asian continent connecting East, South, and Western Asia with the Mediterranean world, including North Africa and Europe."

China also played a major role in the history of the Silk Road. The Silk Road has its origins in China (Luoyang and Xi'an). Because the Silk Road was used by people from all over the world, this led to the inevitable foreign influences on each country.

One of the most powerful impacts of foreign influences was of Buddhism in China. In History, about the Golden Age of the Tang Dynasty, we learn that Buddhism spread to China and found acceptance among the Chinese, which remains to this day.

This leads me to the conclusion that foreign influences play a huge part in developing a country's own unique culture.
