All right, so I've decided to stop procrastinating and blog about the RSP Camp. First day was in Pulau Ubin! My group [GROUP D!] started out with the kampung house visit. We went inside the kampung house and learnt the differences between a kampung house and the house we live in nowadays. wood vs. cement, raised platform [stilts?] vs. solid ground, and everything. and we visited the bathroom, which had a deep pit with TADPOLES inside, and the well, which had POND SKATERS and WATER BOATMAN(S) inside. then we had traditional kampung games! it was a relay around the house. [my group won (: ] after that, we went up and did ketupat-wrapping, and made roti girai, also known as lace pancakes. then came lunch. after lunch, we went to Chek Jawa. We were introduced to some musical instruments used, mostly in dances. Then we were introduced to the kuda kepang dance [which Ms Lee already showed us on video earlier in the year] and lastly, the clothes that Malays wore. finally, my group did batik painting. before we left for mainland Singapore, we had a small award ceremony then went home. Next day was in Victoria School! We covered in greater detail the arts that flourished in Malaysia/Indonesia, such as Gamelan Instruments and Wayang Kulit. After having sessions with trainers in both activities, we had to come up with our own wayang, on the story of Ramayana. Lastly, each school put up their performance before we called it a day. In my next post, I'll go into greater detail about the Gamelan instruments and Wayang Kulit! :)
